Post 10: Character

Today I'd like to talk about character; however, let's first define it so we both will be on the same page.

The character is the tendency towards a type of behavior, It is the result of education, experiences, interactions and the context where we develop. I believe we aren't born with it, we acquire it and it has a cultural origin. Which means character is not inherited, it is learned.

On the other hand, we're born with temperament, it is that instinctive part that makes us react in a certain way that nobody taught us. If we observe several newborns, we can see that they are all different, some calm, others moved, others crying, etc. and that from my perspective means that temperament is inherited.

Now that we define character, the reason why I wanted to write about it is because I think if we have an ability to do something, it will guide us to a good performance on a particular field. However, once we reach a top performance we want to continue at the top and it takes character to keep you there specially for long periods of time.

Since character can be developed I have found that we need a proper preparation to build the right character that will keep us on the top because it require to work as hard or even harder once you're there. so please keep in mind that when you think about someone who performs all the time at his/her highs 'more than ability, they have character'

For example, I loved basketball and when I was at high school Kobe Bryant was one of my inspirations, his mindset and his playing abilities were unbelievable. However, what truly admire about him is that he reached the top performance and stayed there for such a long time which for me is even harder because you need to have a strong character to face all the challenges to kept growing.

I encourage you to think about what kind of character do you have and how to keep improving to achieve what do you want.
